Adrian Newey to become free agent in early 2025

Adrian Newey will not be restricted in his future F1 ventures next season, as he will become a free agent in twelve months. This is crucial for Newey’s future since it allows him to become integrated into any team he joins in a reasonable time frame. Although his impact in the 2025 season will be restricted, the British engineer will become a key player for the new 2026 regulations.

The last few months have been utter chaos in the F1 world. Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari shocked the world in February, announcing a multi-year agreement effective from the start of 2025. The Italian outfit has been rejuvenated under Fred Vasseur, who is improving the team in every aspect.

Vasseur will be very busy in the upcoming weeks and months as Adrian Newey becomes available. Initially, there were concerns that Newey – even if he left Red Bull – would be unavailable for several years. This could have jeopardised his chances of influencing development for the regulation changes.

ADRIAN NEWEY AVAILABLE FROM EARLY 2025

However, this is not the case. Adrian Newey will step away from Red Bull’s F1-related activities effective immediately. His only work at Milton Keynes will be related to his Hypercar project.

In twelve months, the British engineer will become a free agent and free to join any Formula 1 team. As reported earlier this year by formu1a.uno, several teams are interested in his services. Aston Martin was understood to have probed Newey’s interest at the Saudi GP weekend.

That said, Ferrari is also firmly in the mix. Newey has spoken previously about his regrets in F1. Among them was never being able to work alongside Lewis Hamilton and never joining the Maranello-based squad. In this sense, a move to the Italian outfit could tick off the 65-year-old’s unfulfilled dreams in the sport.

Of course, he still needs to decide if he wants to continue in the sport. Retirement, whilst far from the most exciting option for fans, is within the realms of possibility.

Still, all reports indicate that Ferrari is well-positioned to negotiate with Adrian Newey. His availability, previously seen as a potential obstacle, is no longer a concern. The upcoming weeks and months will determine how the situation evolves.
