Formula 1 is heading into the final race of 2024’s first triple header. After racing in Barcelona and Spielberg, the F1 circus lands in Great Britain for the Silverstone Grand Prix. The last few races have already provided food for thought. The development war continues, with several teams bringing updates to Spain. For Ferrari and Fred Vasseur, this weekend is a chance to optimise their upgrades.
Ferrari are struggling to extract the potential from the upgrade package that arrived in Spain. Team principal Fred Vasseur is aware of the challenge facing his personnel.
VASSEUR: “THE STANDARD FORMAT WILL HELP US WORK ON THE UPDATE PACKAGE”
Fred Vasseur touched upon familiar themes in the build-up to the British GP. The Frenchman, much like his technical team, remains confident in the SF-24 and its potential. Arriving in Great Britain is always a pleasure for Formula 1. The circuit holds a tremendous history and is also a great technical challenge.
“It is one of the most traditional events together with the one in Italy,” remarked the Ferrari team principal.
Silverstone is a circuit where both medium and high-speed performance are necessary. Efficiency is also an important quality at the British circuit.
Ferrari are searching for answers after a complicated run of form:
“I am convinced that our engineers in Maranello have worked well.
“The package of updates has given us more energy. Now it is up to us to succeed in extracting on the track the potential that we know there is in the SF-24.”
Frederic Vasseur reiterates that the Scuderia’s issues are mainly a question of setup. Their new floor has generated even more downforce than what was expected. However, the SF-24 is now struggling from bouncing – which is a limiting factor in setup and ultimate performance.
Vasseur reiterated that having a normal weekend with three free practice sessions is beneficial:
“We will have to use them at best to find a set-up that allows us to exploit the new features.
“As said in Imola, the work of fine-tuning the new features that are brought into the car can be worth as much as bringing new components,” declared Vasseur.
The aim is to improve the setup of the SF-24, therefore working on the aero-mechanical balance to extract the missing potential.
“We have to put Charles and Carlos in a position to be more brilliant in Qualifying and fight for important points on Sunday!”
